Surface Finishes

  Edge Finishes

The finish of a stone contributes to its beauty, its durability and its use in a variety of applications.

Continuously monitoring and evaluating customer trends and changes in the market to cater for varying needs of our customers we have developed our unique ranges of natural stone tiles with following surface and edge details.

To help you select the stone finish that's right for your application, here's some detailed information on surface finishes and edges:

Honed: This is a process to remove the saw marks/scratches left by the saw. This gives a softer, matte appearance to the stone.
Honed & Filled: A very fine satin smooth finish with little or no gloss obtained after filling the natural voids of Travertine with cements or synthetic resins and similar materials.
Polished: A glossy surface finish that brings out the full color and character of the stone. The finest and smoothest finish available in stone, characterized by a high luster and strong reflection of incident light.
Tumbled: A special finish obtained by rotating pre-cut pieces of stone in a tumbler. This process produces a very rustic look with rough edges and rounded corners.
Velvet Touch (Brushed): This process is done with a wire brush to make the stone have a soft or velvet feel to it. This process enhances and deepens the colors as well.
Sand Blasted (Non-Skid): This is accomplished by exposing the surface to a high pressure jet of siliceous sand that leaves the material slightly scratched on the surface, but not rugged. This finish is used around swimming pools because of its non-slippery surface.
Saw Cut: This is the result when the stone is cut; the gang saw used leaves marks/scratches on the surface.
Semi Polished: This is achieved by rubbing (by hand or machine) the rough or high spots off the surface to be used, leaving a certain amount of the natural surface along with the smoothed areas.
Oak Finish: A special treatment that creates a look finer than the Sand Blasted.
Split Finish: has a flat back with an uneven front surface, which offers a look like protruding bricks from the wall.
Rough Chiseled: A hand-made finish with deep textured line that could go in one or more direction.
Light Chiseled: A hand-made finish with fine texture.
Bush Hammered: A finish that creates a rugged surface full of little grazes that becomes non-slippery, giving the stone a lighter shade.
Flamed: A stone that has been thermally treated, creating a reddish-yellow color with uneven rough surface.
Antique (Chiseled. Sand Blasted, Acid Washed):
Special machinery that looks like industrial washing machines is used to obtain an antique finish. The pieces to be treated are put in the machine with abrasive elements (sand, shot blast) and the cylinder revolves. In a short time the impact of the stones with the abrasives produces an effect similar to aging caused by use and wear.
